Magic Diamond
The Blue Magic Diamond
set has been described as “a magnificent Fancy Vivid blue
diamond ring.” On June 19, 2001 the Gemological Institute
of America bestowed its highest color grade honor on the
Blue Magic Diamond by way of Certificate #11568233. The
Institute stated that the diamond is fancy vivid blue, natural
color, VVS2 clarity. The 12.02 carat blue diamond is set
in an 18K white gold hoop flanked by two colorless baguettes.
The Gemological Institute of
America rates diamonds of color from Faint to Very Light,
Fancy, Fancy Intense, Fancy deep, to Fancy Vivid. The rating
of Fancy Vivid identifies the Blue Magic Diamond as one
with the richest color possible in diamonds of color. Also,
the VVS2 clarity rating declares that the diamond is very,
very, slightly included, meaning that any inclusions are
so slight that experienced graders would have a difficult
time detecting them using 10x magnification.
Natural blue diamonds are extremely
rare. The pear-shaped Blue Magic Diamond is the largest
blue diamond to be offered for sale at auction making it
a highly rare and collectible gem. Out of its setting the
Blue Magic Diamond measures 21 mm. The diamond was not sold
at the last auction, though Christies was expecting it to
bring anywhere from $5 to $6 million dollars. Christies
also state that the diamond will not be offered for auction
any time soon.
