Loose Diamond Engagement Article:

The night I received
my diamond
engagement ring!
I had been living with
my boyfriend for about a year before he proposed in 1994.
We had arranged to
meet for a night out at a very nice night club for drinks
and dancing. I and a girlfriend arrived early at the club.
My fellow arrived a bit later, dressed well and looked very
handsome.
We sat down for cocktails,
and 10 minutes later the hostess came over with a beautiful
jewelry box for me. She said an admirer had sent it. I looked
at my friend and my boyfriend, but my friend just look bewildered
and my boyfriend had a quizzical look on his face, and said
that he had no idea what it was. (He is a very good poker
player.)
I opened the jewelry
box. Inside was a beautiful bottle of perfume. I set it
down and proceeded to have drinks; still wondering what
was going on. I thought maybe this was a door prize or something.
15 minutes later the
waiter came over and gave me a similar looking jewelry box.
I had no idea what was going on. I asked the waiter, and
he said he was just told to give it to me. Again, my boyfriend
just gave me an "I have no clue" look. I opened
it up, and inside was a beautiful pin.
The same thing happened
a third time with the waiter bringing another jewelry
box over. This time it was a watch. I was so bewildered.
At this point, I knew my boyfriend had something to do with
this, but I didn’t know what was going on, and he wasn’t
talking.
Well, about 2 hours
into the evening, when the house band was starting up, I
noticed my boyfriend hadn’t returned from the bathroom.
I heard someone on the microphone on the dance floor, and
turned, and saw MY BOYFRIEND! (My boyfriend is very shy,
so this was surreal).
He proceeded to tell
the good-sized crowd there (this was at a club in Underground
Atlanta) who he was, and that he was there for a very special
occasion. H said that he was in love with a special person
(ME!) and he had a very special question to ask her. I was
so scared I was shaking! He called out to the crowd, "Would
CB please come up here?" As I was making my way towards
him, he was fishing for something in his pocket. The next
few minutes was kinda a blur, but I remember him asking
me over the mike to marry him and make him the happiest
man in the world. I broke down, and cried "Yes."
The crowd went wild. We partied hard the rest of the night. |
